In early 2019, Pastor Ted Lam of TIBC Church encouraged the younger Pastor Zhou Maolun, saying that the fastest growing areas in Tulsa are Broken Arrow and Bixby, and more and more Chinese people are gathering in the area. In line with the principle of the church going to the community, we should plant churches in the area. I encourage you to pray for this and see if God gives you similar revelations.
In early July 2020, after more than a year of prayer, Pastor Zhou and his wife Shuxian thought that the time had come and they should start planting churches there. So Pastor Zhou communicated his intention to plant churches with Pastor Lin.
In early August 2020, Lin Bin of TIBC Church proposed in the church to plant churches in Broken Arrow and Bixby in the greater Tulsa area. The focus areas for church planting were determined to be: Aspen Ave to the east, Sheridan Ave to the west, 91 Street to the north, and 121 Street to the south. And starting from the first Sunday of August 2, every Sunday afternoon, the troops were divided into four groups, driving along different streets and praying while driving. For four consecutive Sundays, until August 23, four driving parades and prayers were carried out. Ask God to prepare the area, call His elect, and build His church. After the fourth parade and prayer, Pastor Lin asked Pastor Zhou to pray for the vision of the new church.
On Monday morning, August 24, 2020, when Pastor Zhou began to pray for the vision of the new church, he was inspired: "Humble, holy, full of the Holy Spirit; love, unity, honor each other; be salt, be light, and live out testimony." This group of phrases flashed in Pastor Zhou's mind, and he excitedly told Pastor Lin. After listening, Pastor Lin told him that this was a mission statement, not a vision. "What is a vision? A vision is a picture you throw out to encourage and drive the congregation to run from point A to point B." He said, "Pastor Zhou, keep praying and see how God reveals you."
On Thursday morning, August 27, 2020, when Pastor Zhou prayed for the vision of the new church for four consecutive days, he was inspired: "Connect with the Chinese church and participate in the great revival of the world gospel!" Finally, we got the vision of the new church.
Starting from October 18, 2020, every Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Mandarin Bible Talks (MBH) will be held at All About Tea, both online and offline. This is the beginning of TIBC's new church planting.
Starting from March 1, 2021, Pastor Zhou Maolun began to constantly contact Baptist churches in the focus area of the new church, trying to share the mission and vision of the new church and seek their advice and help. Soon, after listening to our mission and vision sharing, Evergreen Baptist Church expressed its willingness to open their church and all facilities for us to try for free, and fully support us to plant a new Mandarin church in their church.
Starting from October 20, 2021, a Mandarin Bible study class will be held every Wednesday night in Room 210 on the second floor of Evergreen Baptist Church. This is the prototype of the new Mandarin church.
July 10, 2022 is the day appointed by God, and TIBC Mandarin Church will officially open. From then on, there will be Sunday worship services every Sunday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In mid-December 2022, TIBC held a meeting and made a resolution to require Pastor Zhou Maolun to leave TIBC and plant an independent church in the southeast of Tulsa. TIBC is willing to provide corresponding help and support for this.
On May 4, 2023, the former TIBC Mandarin Church (or East Church) was renamed Tulsa Awakening Baptist Church and was officially registered and recognized.
